Our client is looking to hire a highly experienced and entrepreneurial Managing Director to lead and further expand its management consulting business in the United States.

The role combines strategic leadership, business development and operational excellence, with responsibility for driving growth, leading client engagements, developing a high-performing team and strengthening the firm’s market presence in the US.

About the Role

The Managing Director will lead and execute the growth strategy for the US consulting business, aligned with the organisation’s global strategy and priorities.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Leading and executing the growth strategy for the US market.
  • Defining market positioning and strategic focus areas, including mobility, energy and digital transformation.
  • Driving financial performance, including revenue growth, profitability and pipeline development.
  • Identifying, originating and securing new consulting engagements across key industries.
  • Building and expanding senior client relationships with C-level and senior decision-makers.
  • Positioning the firm as a trusted advisor through thought leadership, industry presence and market insights.
  • Representing the firm at conferences, industry events and client forums.
  • Overseeing and contributing to the delivery of high-impact consulting projects.
  • Acting as a senior advisor to clients and ensuring the strategic relevance and quality of deliverables.
  • Identifying opportunities to expand client engagements and cross-sell services.
  • Building, leading and developing a high-performing consulting team in the US.
  • Providing mentorship and guidance to Senior Managers and Project Leaders.
  • Supporting recruitment and talent development initiatives.
  • Working closely with global leadership and regional teams across Europe, the Middle East and Asia.
  • Supporting cross-border projects and global account development.

Required Qualifications and Skills

The successful candidate will have:

  • A minimum of 15+ years of professional experience in the mobility and/or energy industry.
  • A minimum of 10+ years of experience in strategy consulting or management consulting, ideally with a top-tier strategy firm or leading specialist, niche or boutique consulting firm.
  • A proven track record of leading project teams and delivering complex consulting engagements.
  • Demonstrated success in business development and revenue generation.
  • A strong network within relevant US industries, including mobility, energy and industrial sectors.
  • Experience building and scaling teams and organisations.
  • An entrepreneurial mindset with strong commercial acumen.
  • Excellent leadership and team development capabilities.
  • Outstanding client management and stakeholder engagement skills.
  • Strategic thinking combined with a strong execution focus.
  • Strong communication and presentation skills.
  • The ability to operate effectively within an international matrix organisation.

Its US business has been serving clients for 13 years and operates from Auburn Hills and Chicago. The US organisation consists of a Strategic Consulting team based across both locations and an Operations team in Auburn Hills, with a strong focus on benchmarking and cost engineering.

The role reports to the Global Managing Director of the consulting business, based in Munich, Germany, with a dotted-line reporting relationship to the President of the North American business.
