Assistant Manager - Strategic Planning & Performance

Our client are at a turning point in their impact journey.  To date, they have been successful in bringing their philosophy and practices to government schools in three districts of Gujarat, with encouraging results.  Their ambition is to transform pupil outcomes in primary education, focusing on the way the teaching profession is understood and supported across India.

They are expanding the Strategic Planning & Performance function and seek a professional with consulting experience to join the team in the UK.  S/he will work directly with the manager, SP&P to ensure programmes are designed and delivered effectively and impactfully.

The Assistant Manager, Strategic Planning & Performance plays a critical role in supporting the operationalization of programmes in India. S/He will be responsible for the design, planning and blueprint development of key interventions (in collaboration with the Education team and under the guidance of the Manager and Deputy Director, Strategic Planning & Performance). S/he would work with the SP&P team, colleagues in Education, Community and in India to ensure the robustness and effectiveness of both programme design and implementation.

Key Responsibilities

1.       Programme Intervention Development and Management:

·         Design and implementation of initiatives, including supporting new initiative development from concept to pilot to scale and sustain. This includes concept papers, design documents and Blueprints.

·         Support to the Education & Community teams in planning new initiatives and reviewing externally generated content

·         Development of processes and tools to support operationalising the new programmes, in collaboration with the Manager and Deputy Director SP&P and colleagues in Education and Community

·         Designing how pilots would work to test relevant parameters of the programme/ intervention

·         Updating Blueprints and processes based on ‘in life’ reviews, impact assessments and ensuring continuous improvement

2.       Programme Planning

·         Responsible for supporting the Manager, SP&P in:

·         Supporting the process by which the detailed plans for each intervention and the overall Programme Implementation Plan (PIP) is developed and agreed with all relevant stakeholders

·         Ensuring the final PIP documents are complete and aligned to objectives and activity plans

3.       Programme Review and Analysis

·         Responsible for supporting the Manager, SP&P in:

·         Working with the Monitoring & Evaluation team to generate insights and analysis to understand progress in implementation and impact realised

·         Supporting in-life reviews of selected processes and programme interventions to assess impact and identify opportunities for improvement

4.       Working with Others

·       Able to pick up new concepts quickly and support technical (Education and Community) experts in building and operationalising their ideas

·       Excellent communication, written and verbal

·       Self-motivated, and happy to work unsupervised using own initiative

·       Well organised and able to juggle several projects at once

·       Articulate and confident in working in a matrixed organisation situations

·       Ability to explain operational issues and solutions succinctly to non-operational colleagues and partners

·       Ability and drive to achieve results and demonstrable impact of projects / programs

·       Attention to detail

Experience and/or Education

Must Haves

·       Proven experience in independently leading work streams in programmes  

·       Previous experience in a cross-functional environment

·       Previous experience in supporting client relationships workshops, developing impactful written collateral

·       Business process reengineering and business process improvement, including RACI development

·       High level Excel, Word and PowerPoint skills

Desirable

·       Experience in working a multi-cultural environment, preferably in developing countries
